Roller Champions review: Shut up and (Roller)Jam

In a world of extreme sports, one that often goes overlooked is roller derby. "What is roller derby?" some readers may ask. This is a contact sport that involves roller skating around a track and smashing into opposing players. Back around the turn of the century, the sport was featured on a cable show called RollerJam. A little over 20 years after RollerJam was canceled, Ubisoft and the team at Ubisoft Montreal are putting the spotlight back on extreme roller derby with its take on the sport: Roller Champions. The result is a fun distraction, but one that doesn't feel like it offers many reasons to return to the track. (Roller) Skate or die The concept of Roller Champions is a simple one. Teams of three step onto an oval-shaped track. Like a standard roller derby session, the idea is to skate around, but the Roller Champions gimmick is that there's a ball in play. Teams must maintain possession of the ball while skating across four different zones in order. After skating across all four zones while holding onto the ball, a goal ring will open up and the team must toss the ball through it in order to score. The rules to Roller Champions sound more intimidating than they actually are in practice. The zones are clearly illustrated along with the direction that teams need to follow in order to open up the goal. In that sense, the game is easy. Where it gets competitive is that this is a full contact sport. The defense can come flying in…

Starlink expands availability to RVs & large vehicles

News Starlink expands availability to RVs & large vehicles Those that want to hit the great outdoors and stay connected can now do both with Starlink's new RV dish. Starlink has expanded its reach to recreational vehicles and larger campers, granting internet access to more remote areas around the world. The product looks to be a portable radar dish that users can place around their campsite to stay connected, even when out in the sticks. While Starlink has been a hot product for a while now, availability has been limited to homes and businesses in a static-environment. Even though the recent Starlink Portability feature launched, offering users the ability to move their equipment, this new focus on RVs and larger vehicles takes portability to another level. Consumers are able to order one of the new Starlink devices, which appears to be a reasonably sized satellite dish. According to the official page, users can anticipate high speed, low latency connections in areas marked as “Available”. The service is billed in one-month increments and can be paused and un-pause at the user’s leisure. Elon Musk noted in a tweet that the service is not available for regular vehicles, as the antenna is too large for cars. Furthermore, the dish requires a clear view of the sky to connect and is not designed to be used while a vehicle is in motion. For those users that spend time traveling and camping, finding reliable internet connections can be tough. Even when trying to escape from it all and connect with nature, it’s still important…

Season of the Haunted brings Solar 3.0 to Destiny 2

News Season of the Haunted brings Solar 3.0 to Destiny 2 The Leviathan is back. Trespasser returns. Austringer rises from the ashes. Season of the Haunted has officially been revealed for Destiny 2. This latest season, technically Season 17, sees the return of locations, characters, and weapons players haven’t seen in a long time. Most importantly, though, is Solar 3.0, which looks to give the iconic subclass element a major facelift. On May 23, 2022, Bungie finally revealed the trailer for Season of the Haunted after it was released early on the PlayStation Japan YouTube channel. Check out the trailer below. There is a whole lot of exciting elements to see in that trailer. Firstly, it looks as though Solar is the next element to receive the 3.0 treatment that Void received with the release of The Witch Queen. As it stands, there’s not a lot of information about what the new Solar 3.0 subclasses will look like other than the brief glimpses seen in the trailer. It also looks like a host of weapons from Season of Opulence are making a return including Austringer, Beloved, Drang, and Calus Mini Tool. We could be on the cusp of seeing Sturm swing back into the meta this season. Also included among the weapons appears to be a new type of Trace Rifle as well as a Scout Rifle, Rocket Launcher, and Glaive. We’ll be sure to let you know of any god rolls we discover. Those who work their way through the Season Pass will also receive an incredibly lethal looking…

Raven QA Game Workers Alliance is the industry's first large video game union in the US

News Raven QA Game Workers Alliance is the industry's first large video game union in the US Workers at Raven Software won their bid to unionize in a 19-3 vote. After forming back in February of this year, the Game Workers Alliance has been recognized as the first major union in the video game industry within the United States. Members of the team sent in their ballots to the National Labor Relations Board in Milwaukee, voting 19-3 in favor of officially unionizing. It was announced today, May 23, 2022, that Raven Software’s QA workers won their vote to unionize. Now, GWA will need to negotiate a contract with parent company Activision Blizzard. It was back in January that Raven Software’s QA workers formed the Game Workers Alliance following Activision Blizzard’s decision to lay off several members of the team the month before. Today’s news sees the group accomplishing the mission that they set out on several months ago. Becka Aigner, a member of Raven Software’s QA team provided a statement on the news as reported by The Washington Post. The outcome of this election, the voice of the people coming together to vote yes for this union, is further validation that even a small group of folks in Madison Wisconsin standing together in solidarity can face up against a AAA studio giant like Activision, and come out the other side victorious. Now that the fight for recognition is through, we can focus our efforts on negotiations. We’ll fight for respect, fight for better wages, better benefits, better work-life balance, fight…
